Platform as Mx HOL
When I started here at this school back in 2013, I realized how hard it was to really break into this place and establish one’s self. There were so many things that I couldn’t do until I had at least a year (sometimes two or more) of experience with the school! Even my pedigree and potential wasn’t enough to skirt these entrenched expectations.
The Quidditch pitch was the closest thing there was to an exception: even though there was an entrenched corpus of shared knowledge you needed to learn, the pitch was a meritocracy at heart. Prove your skill and you’d be welcomed, even if you were there for much less time than everyone else. And it was my time on the pitch, of course, that first gave me any sort of responsibility towards others at the school.
Over the years, I have been pleased to see this school become more and more welcoming towards newcomers. I like to think I played a role in that, but definitely others’ efforts in various activities were important as well. I think that this school can only become better and less stagnant if we continue to make the transition for our newer students smoother.
On another note, looking back at my own house, it physically pains me to see how few new members we have (and how few of the ones we do get eventually get incorporated into the community as a whole). As much as we value tradition as Slytherin, it can only survive and evolve with new people to carry it on and adapt it as appropriate.
Therefore, if elected Mx HOL, my platform issue will be making the transition of new students (and some of their ideas) into the school as seamless and smooth as possible. I feel that this is an important goal both for the future of my own House and the school as a whole!
